Love's Last Glimpse Awards and Nip/Tuck Premiere

I always have a hard time figuring out what to say to this sort of thing. Other than, you know, a huge THANK YOU to all you wonderful people out there. And congratuations to the many other winners on my flist!




Master and Slave picked up a couple of awards at Love's Last Glimpse, including "Best PWP" (!!). Which totally shocked me, not just because the last month's been so hectic, I'd totally forgotten I was even in the running at all, but because my reaction to the runner-up story, stultiloquentia's Stick Shift (redux) is to bow down and salaam "I'm Not Worthy!" So if you haven't read Stulti's story yet, please do. It's smokin' hot.

Some first reactions to the Nip/Tuck premiere:

Sean and Christian are Gonna Do It This Year, I'll Betcha: I don't think we were more than five minutes into the episode before I piped up with, "God, Sean and Christian are such a couple." Not that the show hadn't worked that angle before - with Christian's wedding last season, we got all these scenes of them picking the food and wine together until the Wedding Planner was sure that they were the soon-to-be-happy-newlyweds. Tongue in cheek. Sweet. But... serious? Not exactly.

This season, though? Oh, I think they're going there. I would be very surprised if Nip/Tuck wasn't the show to go there, considering everything else they've gotten away with on teevee. Of which, I think we've gotten the most close-up views of Julian McMahon's tushie of any shown on basic cable.

Is Christian Losing His Hair?: His normal neatly brushed 'do was pulling some strange, Pee-Wee Herman formations in a few scenes - are we going to get a storyline about male pattern baldness? I'd be surprised if not, given the way the show deals with age. Love it.

The Family That Lays Together...: I kept thinking I'd seen this done before somewhere, the mother-and-daughter-seeing-one-guy and finally remembered where - it was in Tales of the City. Less sympathetic here, but making a good point about Christian in that way that Nip/Tuck does. He's got intimacy issues, no kidding.

Where's Matt?: We didn't see Sean and Julia's son Matt at all. Which, considering where Season 3 left off, surprised me. I'm starting to wonder what kind of incarnation we should be ready to expect this time.

The Business Buyout: Okay, I saw this plot done on House, and didn't like it much, so here's to hoping there's something better in mind here. But Larry Hagman was terrific.

Kathleen Turner: ... can whisper in my ear anytime. Oh, baby. If I could get that voice by smoking, I'd think about it.

Oh sorry, that just came all in a mad rush. I loved my uncle and family. And if I ever have children I will need to have genetic counseling. But I would never and I mean never have wished my uncle's life on anyone. My own mother was afraid she herself could give birth to a child with such problems, and when she was pregnant with me, chose not to have an abortion because of the chance something could be wrong with me. Their were tests avaible but their was also a high chance of miscarriage if she did those tests becaues she was already had an high risked pregnancy because of her, age, fortunely I came out ok. But if I ever became pregnant, know adays that tests are alot safer, I would have them done, and if I found out my baby did have Fragile X, or if I was even a carrier of that gene. I would abort the child and decide to never have children. The one thing I never want to do is give my uncle's life to child, even my own. And Sean's child won't even have kidney, spinal, or difficulty walking or talking. Sean and Juila and their son will be fine. Acourse this show is going to live up the drama. Would I abort a baby that was otherwise healthy but had deformed hands..no.
My own mother was born with a deformity, a cleft plate, for the first six months of her life, her parents had to force down about every drop of food or milk she needed. After Juila's son is born he will even be able to nurse. My mother went on to have hers fixed acourse, and is fine know. But the baby won't even suffer that.

Oh, I understand completely what you're saying. But one of the many things that's enjoyable about Nip/Tuck for me is that at no time do I ever get the impression that we're being told how the characters are acting is the right thing to do - exactly the opposite, more than not. So I think the point of the particular disability they chose was to present a situation where clearly it wasn't a decision of major mental problems or something that might be seen as more clear-cut, and instead make a point about Sean, that he's unable to accept a child that's not "perfect." Which doesn't come as a huge surprise, actually, given not just his profession, but also how he reacted to finding out about Matt, and his real parentage. Sean has, as they say, big issues.

Yeah your right, while Christian would accept any child of his blood even if the child wasn't perfect.

Or even not of his blood at all, as in that baby he tried to adopt. It's so interesting, how they play those two off each other, Christian with his need for family and Sean who has everything but is somehow never satisfied.

Yep except when they are together. Christian can't be so afraid that he might actually be love in Sean and might be gay. Come on from last year and they have shared a woman too.
