The Senate is voting tomorrow on immigration legislation that includes a snuck-in version of the REAL ID Act, which would require everyone in the US to get special 'national identification' to get a job, get on a plane, or do pretty much anything in real life. This would be an unfunded federal mandate for states to enforce, meaning that the fed isn't sending any money and people would have to pay through the nose for this program. This is another way for the government to keep tabs on everything we do in our lives -- and charge us for it as well.

Thanks for the info - I'm off to do so. Cuz I keep seeing those old WWII movies in my head - "Papers, please!" I mean, it's not like Shrub has been trying to turn the country into a Fascist society or anything... Oh wait!

The immigration bill died (again) in the Senate this afternoon. Granted, this is something to be aware of, but it's not going to pass in the next 24 hours.
