No, Angel wasn't there. It was this whole thing at the end of the very first story arc, where things were set up as this sort of Sleeping Beauty scenario, where Buffy had to be awakened with a kiss. That's actually how they did the setup for Buffy/Satsu, in fact, but I'd have to go back and look at the wording to see if it conflicts with this story, and the whole big true destiny thing... not that it would surprise me if it did conflict. The continuity hasn't been particularly tight in this book.
