I Just Couldn't Not Do It
I borrowed this one from
nazlan. Because I had to.
Angel or Spike?
Hm. Love them both, but still... Spike. Angel has this tendency to be a bit too immature for my taste. In that way of being Big Bumbling Wide-Eyed Innocent Boy well past the point of plausibility. A little immature can be construed as cute. A lot starts to look kinda mentally deficient... although did I mention that I do love Angel? Sigh. Aw, that big goof. I guess you could just say I "get" Spike more.
Buffy or Willow?
Willow. Could barely stand Buffy by the end of the series. Willow also less with the hangups, even if she did have to tweleve-step her way through some of them.
Fred or Cordelia?
Cordelia. I became terribly fond of Fred after she hit Connor with a taser (honestly, that was the moment I began to like her), but Cordy grew as a character the way Fred wasn't really allowed to.
Xander or Oz?
Oz. If you'd asked me in Season 5, I'd have said Xander because I was so damn proud of him for being such a grownup, but in Season 6 all that was taken away, and he never really got it back. So sad.
Lilah or Lindsey?
Toughie. I respect Lindsey, but love Lilah, so - Lilah. And she was honestly teetering on the edge of redemption toward the end, helping out the Angel gang because she cared about Wes. Lindsey, less so. You get the feeling he got out of W&H more out of a sense of self-preservation and you're-not-the-boss-of-me defiance rather than actual moral objections to the business.
Giles or Joyce?
God, what to do here? Giles let me down so bad in the final season. Joyce wasn't perfect either, but she was a good person. Never compromised her ideals. Talked things out with Buffy. Okay, Joyce. Giles acted like an asshole. As much as I hate the whole "bad dad" thing, can't really find a way around it. Joyce stuck by her daughter. Giles bailed.
Wesley or Gunn?
This season of AtS? Gunn. Last season? Wes.
Anya or Tara?
Anya. Much as I love Tara, Anya was a hero to me.
Connor or Dawn?
I became very fond of Connor, toward the end, with his teen hostility, existential drama, and phobia of magic. I also loved Dawn, the possibilities of that character, which unfortunately never really came to fruition. It's like the writers forgot about her. Gah... I guess if I had to pick one, Dawn. It's really something like a tie. Connor was endearingly fucked up. He was fabulous in "Home."
Kate or Jenny?
Kate. She was actually interesting, once you sort of mentally walled off the idea of her being set up as a love interest for Angel (which she never was - huzzah for actual platonic friendship!). Jenny had only one real purpose - to die tragically. Which she did very well, but...
Darla or Drusilla?
I'm very fond of Drusilla. Darla I love too. This is really a tie. For richness of arc, Darla wins. For sheer inventiveness of character, Drusilla wins.
Who is the best couple? Buffy w/Angel, Spike, Riley, Parker, or Scott?
Parker and Scott don't even rate, throw them out. If I view Buffy's relationships as a growth pattern, Angel was a passionate love, but god, the angst. What she had with Riley was a step toward a more mature, balanced relationship... except that she never completed her journey down that road. The possibility was there with Spike, but she was too busy turning that experience into something mutally degrading to complete that journey either. I guess at this point I'd almost say I prefer her with Riley (!). At least the conflicts they faced as a couple were human and understandable.
Angel w/Buffy, Fred, Cordelia, Eve, Darla or Drusilla?
To be honest, none of the above. I think Angel needs a partner, and none of these could really fill that bill. About nobody in his life could, except maybe Spike.
Fred w/Wesley, Gunn, Angel, Spike, or Knox?
None of the above, although I'm sad they never really explored the possibilities of Fred/Spike. I can't quite picture it, but it might have been interesting.
Xander w/Willow, Anya, Cordelia or Inca Mummy Girl?
Cordelia. He treated Anya like crap. Cordelia could hold her own. And sad to say, she was right to dump him when she did. So I guess nobody right now, huh?
Willow w/Xander, Oz, Tara or Kennedy?
Tara.
Some questions about Buffy.
What is your favorite overall episode?
Single, stand-alone? I keep trying, but end up getting it do to two per season. S3, Homecoming," "Lover's Walk." S4, "Pangs," "A New Man." (Hm, both Espensen episodes.) S5, "Buffy vs. Dracula," "Fool for Love." Okay, if I had to wipe everything but one, "Fool for Love."
What episode did you cry the most in?
"The Gift."
What episode do you wish you could erase?
For an hour I wish I'd never been made to sit through, "Seeing Red." For vileness of message, "Get It Done." For sheer and utter crap factor, "End of Days," although I reserve the Andrew/Anya stuff and Spike's sad door scene. The rest didn't even add up to thin lard to spread on toast.
Who is your favorite character?
Wanna take a wild guess? Spike. Anya a strong runner-up. Then Faith.
Who is your least favorite character?
Caleb. I don't think it's physically possible for me to hate a character more. He wasn't just vile, he was boring. And we saw way too much of him. I wasn't even faintly amused by that guy.
Some questions about Angel.
What is your favorite overall episode?
Probably "Magic Bullet," where Fred's wandering LA all paranoid about the Jasmine followers, or "Home," the S4 finale. The Darla arc I sort of think of as one piece, so I can't really pick one out there, even though it's fabulous.
Who is your favorite character?
Of the Angel gang? Cordy. Of Wolfram & Hart, for some reason, I really adored Gavin. I was sad when he got zombified.
Who is your least favorite character?
Right now, probably Eve, although that's more indifference than anything else.
What episode were you most surprised by?
"Peace Out." Didn't see the end of that one coming.
If Angel and Spike had a rematch, would Spike still win?
I wouldn't count on it. I don't think they'd fight the same way anymore - I don't think Spike could wind up enough hatred toward Angel again. Angel, on the other hand, I could see taking Spike down. I have a harder time believing that Angel would hold back.
