I'm with you on the Spike knowing he would probably die - there were just too many cues there to not think so, especially the shot of him just sitting there looking at the amulet, and the way when the amulet first starts working in the Hellmouth he immediately begins calling for Buffy. It just seemed too clear to me that he knew those were going to be his last moments.
Which also then always puts me in mind of the way he really demands the amulet from Buffy in the first place....
And thanks for giving Spike a mysterious, risky gig. That's a great element. Poor Wiser!Buffy. Heh.
Spike's job is kind of a holdover from my other fic that I haven't finished yet, but it did end up tying into where I wanted to go with this one, so much the better.
