No -- that didn't go on too long. The tension was exquisite. And I like very much that extremis puts Spike back in a state that we have to remember what he IS, or WAS. Despite Buffy trying to bring him back to his civilised state by telling him to remember WHO he is, the starvation and trauma of being alone all that time takes him back to the primal state of WHAT he is. And what he is,even in that weakened state, is pretty scary!
