Well, they do seem to have more reason to be, since God actually makes a statement about their existence. Humans, we're not even sure based on this evidence whether anyone cares!

Maybe so, but still, the abundant physical evidence the Buffyverse provides for the effectiveness of religious icons and the literal truth of Christian belief would seem to be pretty compelling proof of the existence of God, whether or not he's actually looking out for his creations. Given all this, I'd say the fact that the good people of Sunnydale aren't all Bible-thumping fanatics actually indicates a remarkable degree of self-restraint, for which some might say they richly deserve to be gobbled up by demons... :-)
