Rainy Romance

First off, a very belated happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] paratti!

Valentine's Day not too eventful - I'd hoped to have some writing done to post by then, alas no, but thankfully [livejournal.com profile] theohara put up a gorgeous little ficlet that made me bawl like an idiot, 'cause I'm a big ol' softy, what of it? Toyed with the idea of posting some songs for that "rec a love song" meme thing, which I still may do, because sharing music? The most awesome thing ever. Just trying to find the best of my eclectic secret stash that might make me look like I actually have taste. And, uh, also to figure out how to upload to our server, because I'm hardly a tech whiz. Possibly some results later today, when I'm more awake, and there might be less cursing. (And is there some way I haven't been able to figure out to actually download songs from yousendit to a Mac instead of just streaming-playing them? Frustrating. As. Hell.)

Our local free weeklies had lists on lists of Valentine's events to go to; I'd picked out going to see art exhibits because, hello, free, plus looking at erotic art with current art student hubby to give commentary seemed like a pretty fab idea, good times. Only the weather dawned here gray and rainy and the idea of trudging through downpours to go see the shows was less than romantic, so we ended up going out to lunch, getting a bottle of honey liquer to swig at the homestead whilst inside and toasty.... and then just as we settled in to watch our second movie of the day (Logan's Run; the first programming item was Earth Girls Are Easy, a guaranteed pick-me-up charming alt-romance movie of Alien Love, plus all those bright colors and Julie Brown, yay), the power goes out. Then it comes back on, then goes out again. And again. The third time it stays off, and lasts for a couple of hours... but unfortunately, just as evening is falling and I've got the place lit up with candles (ooh, romantic!), the lights come back on! Dammit! So we ended up going out to dinner at an Eritrean restaurant, a closeby fave that requires a calorie-burning walk up a hill, but pays off with the fun of terrific food and eating with your fingers. Pretty much end of evening: we go home, put on another movie (Island of Dr. Moreau, the one with Brando - it's better than most people think, and a great showcase for David Thewlis; we'd had a conversation over dinner about sci-fi and the ethical questions inherent in robots and artificial life, yadda yadda, which made us want to look again at H.G. Wells... hard to explain)... and then I doze off on the couch bed while Toys works on his art homework, which involved doing a charcoal drawing of hockey players. Exciting, huh?

I find it funny that the point where the power kept cutting out while playing Logan's Run was the scene in which Michael York has just picked up Jenny Agutter for anonymous sex through a sort of On-Demand beam-into-your-home service, and she's just about to ditch him because she doesn't wanna do it with someone of his job description. Both times, the lights went out before she could get to the dumping. Significant!

I'm on Safari, and so far, when I try to control-click, which usually works fine, I just get the html file that points back to yousendit. Confusing!

Never used Safari either - I rarely venture out of my computer comfort zone. =)

Okay, here's the most obvious question: you do know that in order to download YouSendIt files you first click the link you're provided (left-click on a PC) and then at that page you download the file, right? The only other thing I can think is that there's either too much of a delay (after about a minute, any YouSendIt link that you've clicked on becomes stale) or the site is simply not compatible with Macs. But that just sounds weird.

I think you're right - the problem's got to be at the download page somehow. I'll try fiddling with menus and see what I can find. It just doesn't make sense there'd be no way to make it work on a Mac. But thanks for the suggestions - I'm just a slow learner on this stuff!
