Nay or Yay

Am having one of those moments in which most of my flist is chatting about the new TV shows, most of which I feel grumpy about, and then I feel like a killjoy for showing up to grouch in that vein. Ugh. I'll probably restrict my complaining to my own journal for the most part from now on. I don't really like being negative. In general, I enjoy finding things that I like and pimping them hard instead. Really not in this to rain on other people's parades. (That said, I wouldn't be surprised or offended if there was some shrinkage in the number of people who've friended me - I'll still be plugging along on my BtVS fics, but otherwise, I'll proably be using this space to yak about comics - Toys is finally taking that class, so my interest in the medium is rising again - obscure sci-fi and horror films and cartoons and the like, and the occasional dose of politics. Possibly some cooking. BtVS love brought a lot of us here together, but aside from that, I'm afraid I may qualify even on LJ as a bit of a weirdo. Be warned.)

So anyway, in place of more bellyaching, let's have a PIMP!

This one's a comic book: JSA Classified, Featuring Power Girl. Solid superhero stuff, introspective in the way of early Buffy, accomplished, detailed art and the artist is female to boot! Punchy writing, standout artwork in classic 2D comics style, and excellent colors (the place where many modern comics unfortunately fall down - sometimes Photoshop effects are not your friends, especially when used to camouflage weak art). Also, the new Black Panther comic series is showing a lot of promise - the world is a better place for the fictional African nation of Wakanda. It's different. I like different.

Also, new Nip/Tuck in less than a week. I am so stoked.

Don't censor your grumpiness! Today I've been reading Peter Brook on the vital function of the critic -- which is to bitch. Without bitchy critics, the producers get lazy and feed us crap, so we either put up with crap, or go away, both of which kill the industry. I'd like a diversity of opinions on my flist, please.

Oh, heck, I'm still refusing to watch new shows, except the ones with David and Nick and Christian---and I may watch James on "Smallville." I recently started watching "Dog, the Bounty Hunter." I'm weird, I know.

Well, I'll be talking about cricket and children and cooking too, and a bit of gardening and politics and meanderings about the things that BtVS and cricket have in common (oh yes! all my obsessions are linked). Weirdo back at ya!

And I've got some things to say about the three films I've seen lately -- Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, and Herbie Fully Loaded (with the kids!).... surprised to find that Lindsay Lohan is quite a sweetheart.
