...And His Head Was On Fire

Sorry for the spammage tonight - I'm feeling garrulous, I guess. Probably procrastination. That always seems to do it. Writing cover letters really qualifies as one of my least favorite things.

I am so looking forward to Ghost Rider this Friday. (Check out the long-version trailer, apparently also old, since it predicts a 2006 release date, here.) The Ghost Rider comics were never that great (I'll allow for some good stories, but they certainly weren't the majority), kind of like the Elvis Presley movie Roustabout crossed with Tales of the Crypt, but that's the beauty of it - making a movie out of Ghost Rider is like remaking a bad film instead of a good one. You can hardly make it worse. Even if this film sucks rocks, it'll still have Ghost Rider in it, and dudes, it's a Harley-riding skeleton with a flaming skull, like some Iron Maiden album cover image that a 15-year-old boy would sketch in his chem notebook or get painted on his skateboard. That's cool. For a movie, that's cool. (Bear in mind that the teenage boy that apparently lives inside me thought the opening credits of Mortal Kombat were landmark moments in filmmaking.)

Anyone planning on writing BtVS Valentine's fic out there? I'm thinking about it, but man - it'll be a last minute item if so.

I'm not familiar with the comics, but Elivis crossed with Tales of the Crypt? It seems one could hardly do better than Nicolas Cage in that role. :-)

I would love to write Valentine fic, but unless inspiration strikes soon, I got nuttin'.

Yeah, I thought the casting was a pretty good call, even if Cage seems to be slowly turning into a Mickey Roarke lookalike with his short-short hair.

I'm still hoping I'll get a bolt of fic inspiration, or that someone will. I needs me some fluffy S/B to read.

I admit that I've never read (or even heard of) Ghost Rider comics, but the trailers make it sound like -- flaming skulls aside -- the same premise as the defunct series Brimstone. Is is something similar?

I think the movie might have a simliar plot, but the original comics story is kind of all over the place - I think his origin's been reinvented a few times, at least. Best as I can remember, the original origin had something to do with possession by a demon, but I'm not sure that justice of any type ever came into it. I think the idea was, the demon just wanted out of hell, and the human host, Johnny Blaze, was the only reason it had any kind of conscience as Ghost Rider, who was otherwise just a serious badass. But it's been years since I read those stories, so I could be remembering it all wrong.

I saw a picture and thought it looked rather good. I might have to acquire it and watch secretly.

I was going to write my anti-Valentine, but I having inspiration problems too.

I think it's fair to assume that Ghost Rider will count as a guilty pleasure. : )

It's looking like I'm not going to get anything underway in time, but I see you've got yours up after all, so squee! I'm off to read it now.

It took ten minutes once I got started.

I've started a Valentine's fic...I'm currently waiting to see if inspiration will return.
*sigh*
Happy HEART Day!
