The summation was the final decision after more tweaking and rewriting and rethinking than you even want to know about - at one point, I had Buffy actually telling her pretty much her whole story, in highlights, with observations in between, and I finally realized, hey, if even I"M bored with this...! At the end off the day, it really seemed to come down to those few lines.
I'm interested to know what scares Dawn so much about Buffy telling her story.
I feel like I've been building up to this part forever! Most of Dawn's reaction was written ages ago.
