Oddly, I have no memory of the Dawn dolls, even though I was right in the target demographic for them. I vaguely remember that creepy Baby-Laugh-A-Lot, though. The commenter who said she was Laughing Sal's baby was right on.

Also, your view about Buffy & Spike's sublime power balance being perfectly expressed in the way they're constantly beating each other up is one I endorse to this day (see icon). Did you ever read Tanith Lee's vampire novel Sabella? There's a somewhat similar dynamic in the ending of that book, which I loved. As a friend who was less impressed than I was put it, "He dominates her, but she drinks his blood so that's OK.". No, really, you have to read it.
My Tanith Lee books are all in boxes somewhere--now I want to go read them all again! Nautibitz first, though.
