I remember thinking she was really beautiful compared to bland Barbie, but in hindsight, I do wonder now if the fact Julia obviously had a career and a narrative to her life was part of her appeal. Barbie was, in terms of story, kind of boring. All shopping. And dates with boys. Yuck. (*g* channeling my preteen self)
