Holding Pattern
Mar. 11th, 2004 10:41 amThe hubby is the king of sweeties. Well, I knew that before, but he just keeps proving it. With no word yet on backup laptop (still "testing" at the shop), he decides to cart his desktop machine out to my little low-table-and-floor-pillows work nest area so we can both share it and I don't have to sit in his back-wrenching office chair. Then he spent the entire evening, although exhausted from doing an all-nighter the day before to finish art project, setting up the machine for dual ownership and replicating my old laptop's files and preferences, even though it caused him much frustration, cursing, and banging. (Fully expect to see longish rant about "Apple's half-assed beta-testing for graphical interface networking" on his LJ in the near future.) I just made him chicken salad and poured him Boddington's pub ale and let him work. Now he's sleeping the sleep of sweet darlings. What a guy.
So computer access much improved, but still not 100% - he's going to need the desktop to work later, and I'll be back to finding something to do with myself. Right now, it's looking like that's going to be Champions of Norrath, a RPG video game I got addicted to by playing the build version with a coworker when he was trying to write a review. I'm not typically that much into either fantasy or RPGs, but this one's entertainingly cathartic - no brain-teasing puzzles, just a series of straight-up quests that mostly involve killing orcs and assorted giant insects and what have you. Fired it up last night on one-person mode while the honey was still banging and cursing; made myself a barbarian chick and spent a couple of hours bashing things with a morningstar. Take that, pent-up aggression! Another great anger-management game - State of Emergency. Any game that features a voiceover trumpeting "Smash the corporation!" and asks you to run around in the midst of a riot breaking windows is bound to take one's blood pressure down a notch.
