The Thing With Two Brains
Apr. 8th, 2004 01:58 pmBy way of offering literary advice today, the hubby and I come to the realization that had we not already picked online aliases, we could have gone by the monikers "Red Leader" and "Green Fairy," as that does seem to describe our respective approaches to life, weirdly enough - I'm all "stay on target" and big with the remember-to-keep-your-eye-on-the-ball Obi-Wan or Yoda-speak, he's all picking up random bits of fluff and substance and weaving them into the overall tapestry of meaning like an endless game of Trivial Pursuit. I guess our reading habits are like that too - I'm always reading nonfiction and trying to deeply absorb information about single topics, he's constantly walking around with The Economist in one hand and The New Yorker in the other and blogging away with whatever attention span he's got left, gathering input from multiple sources. And then somewhere in the middle, we meet, and enjoy deep analysis - I've usually prechewed things over heavily while he's got huge piles of information to bring to the table that make me reassess. Really kind of fascinating to think about, how those approaches manage to synch up. Sometimes I honestly think we're like some science experiment to create two halves of one brain.
