It Is To Laugh
Aug. 3rd, 2004 04:50 pmAren't I being a good little writer person today? I've been working nearly nonstop on my Spuffyficathon entry, which I thought was a good idea to get started on since I've got a vacation coming up, and didn't want to leave it too close to the deadline. Upward from 5,000 words and definitely the silliest thing I've ever written, and it's not even done yet. Sooner or later I'll get back to the angst of all my current continuing stories, but for now it's kind of addictive to be hitting on the fun. (The only thing that bugs is that I can't post the story until we get back from vacation.... urgh...)
Saw The Village with Toys last night ( Realizing I Should Put Even These Non-Spoilery Comments Behind a Cut )
And in other news, AMC has been on this day-long Mel Brooks love affair and general comedy fest. I was amused to note that History of the World holds up even less well than I remember on rewatch - the Rome segment is nearly unwatchable (how much of Brooks's work consists of in-jokes about his own career?) and the "Inquisition" song-and-dance bit is honestly the best part. But dude! The Jew jokes! We get it, already! You're Jewish!
On the other hand, High Anxiety holds up marvelously. I love that movie, not the least because it's a San Francisco local film, as is Time After Time, that Jack-the-Ripper-time-travel film that made me fall in love (briefly, thank god) with Malcolm McDowell. And I adore Madeline Kahn. May have to put on Young Frankenstein soon, since it looks like Princess Bride is soon going to give way to (shudder) City Slickers 2. Sorry, Billy Crystal... just not my type.
