Sick

The human body can turn on one like a rabid dog, can't it? Thursday morning I woke up feeling fine, and yet, by that night I had a full-blown monster head cold that came on with the speed of Captain Trips. An afternoon sinus tickle, what I thought was a bad allergy attack, and then... yeesh. I spent the night half-dozing on the living room floor with my head propped up, watching Necronomicon on the Sci-Fi Channel. (Aside from being dictated by the sheer grue factor, why is it that all of Sci-Fi's most interesting programming seems to be on in the middle of the night?) Feel a little better this morning, with everything moving into my ears so I can at least breathe, but now have that awesome floating feeling of one's head being underwater, and only the most minimal sense of taste. Have scads of observations from my sickness-induced TV marathon, but those will have to wait until I'm mentally clearer.

The Love's Last Glimpse awards were announced today. Was relieved to see that I didn't win, because my nominated story ("The Center") is still very much unfinished. (Edited to add: um, I'm actually a runner-up winner for "Best Challenge Response," which I didn't see on first read-through because I'm muzzy-headed, so let me amend this to say big thank you for that.) I wouldn't have voted for it to win in this state myself, and for someone with a track record of one finished story, I deserve no more bragging rights. Still, a big "Thank You" to the sweet peep or peeps that nominated me in the first place - I'm still striving hard to live up to that.
