Busy, Busy
Apr. 28th, 2005 09:31 amSo much happening out there in LJ land over the last few days. Of course that's Murphy at work with that law - everything going on while I barely have a moment to snatch away and hang out commenting. Argh.
Yes, FYI, I've just been busy lately with jobish things. Should be working right now, in fact, but taking a minute to drink coffee and wake up. To the background noise of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, which coincidentally enough, just came up in discussion not too long ago when I was bitching about the casual '70s sexism in the old Battlestar Galactica. I'd never watched the episodes they're currently airing, where they're not on Earth anymore. They look a lot like every other sci-fi show with a two-word name starting with the letter "T" and ending with "ek" - go to a Hollywood back lot planet that looks a lot like an Earth civilization with a lower level of technology, discover race of cowboys / Romans / villagers shaking sticks out of a Frankenstein movie / aliens who look just like humans in rough-hewn clothes to show that they're poor, and then the heroes get chased by mob and thrown in jail. Cue culture clash. It's pretty much a cowboy movie in slight drag. Why is it always cowboys? The frontier thing? I think BG essentially did Shane twice.
A quick thanks to everyone who chimed in on my little BtVS observation from the other day. It really does amaze me, how much there still is to talk about there, and how it continues to shift and change with time.
[Edited to add: on first printing, I'd mistyped the title as "15th" century, and now there's a show I'd like to see.]
