Shaping up to be a lovely morning - in a couple of hours, Toys and I will gambol off to stand in line for autographs from pro-wrestler Kurt Angle, about which I'm not allowing myself yet to get nervous, and the weather is awesomely gorgeous, which is good news for visiting out-of-townies [livejournal.com profile] asta77, [livejournal.com profile] writteninstars, plus friend, all of which I had the chance to meet last night (my first face-to-face with people I'd only previously known from online). We grabbed dinner and drinks on Haight St. along with SF locals [livejournal.com profile] danceswithwords and [livejournal.com profile] ascian3, and the whole evening was just generally enjoyably fun and really got me thinking - not just the obvious observation, cool people are everywhere, because all involved were just the sweetest of sweeties, but that LJ really is sort of a miracle of social engineering, isn't it? You feel like you've already "met," or at least have working knowledge of a person from reading their LJ. And in this day and age, when it's damned hard to meet new people outside of work or selected other venues in which you have to interact, like school, that's a pretty precious resource. I mean, there's me, sitting there thinking about how none of the people at that table would have met at all had they not gathered together through LJ to talk about BtVS, and that's the power of art. Storytelling and art. As the Doctor would say, "fantastic!"
