Oh, god, the BBC Doctor Who site is really a thing of beauty right now. Sight and sound. It's also spoilery if you're not up to date on the current adventures of the Doctor, but if you are... ah, the wonderfulness.

Having a very difficult time keeping my thoughts clear, for some reason - dehydration, maybe, as in the fairly frightening factoids [livejournal.com profile] rusty_halo was pointing out earlier this evening (shades of the Snopes Cokelore page, a site I discovered about ten years after everyone else did - how could I have missed all those Internet urban legends in one place?). Batman Returns is playing right now on ABC Family (and so far the violence has not been terribly cut down - guess maybe that's a wasted worry, about children's entertainment, fairy tales, etl al, becoming too bowderized?). And I'm remember just how good that Catwoman story was - timid, ultragirlish pretty-in-pink Michelle Pfieffer goes all Goth-y black vinyl and animalistic sex-and-violence after being brought back from the dead to wreak vengeance ala The Crow. It's I Spit On Your Grave meets Legally Blonde - Pfeiffer wrecks her own Barbie apartment in a display of ultrafeminist pique. Here was a film produced at a time when women were allowed to really get mad about their alloted share. It's not subtle, by any means - check out the entire quality of Catwoman's persona and costume, which plays vengeance as a sort of lethal cocktease - but it's charmingly self-aware of its own cartoonish non-subtlety. And Christopher Walken in that wig!

Ads for Bewitched. I can't get over how much Nicole Kidman looks like Anya in that red dress. I'll probably have to see this film. Even if I don't "get" the whole thing with Will Farrell. (He's always going to be Mugatu in Zoolander to me.)

Holy shit - now there's a tsunami warning for the California coast, from Vancouver island to Baja. Offshore earthquake about 80 miles out to sea from Crescent City, up near the Oregon border. We're about 2.5 miles from the Pacific. Toys says not to worry. Right. See me not worry.

Whew

...And the tsunami warning has been called off. No serious wave activity near Oregon.

Well, that was a scary few minutes. I had visions of riding the bus to Twin Peaks.
