Various musings instead of studying for my exam or writing fic - I'm having a weird relationship with TV right now. I'm watching Sci-Fi Friday regularly now, from Stargate to Atlantis to Battlestar Galactica in a nice, neat row, but not feeling inspired enough to really make the effort to talk about them all that much. They're entertaining me at best, and kind of frustrating at worst. I think, over the years, I've become a very tough room for television. Stargate SGI )

Lest anyone take my previous post about Battlestar Galactica the wrong way - and nobody has, no worries, but just in case - I just wanted to throw up a reminder here about my tastes in entertainment. I like a lot of crap - horror movies, bad sci-fi, kiddie shows, comic books. I often pan for gold in shit, and amazingly enough, often find it. See the icon. Because stories are stories, and if something's well done, it's well done, no matter the method or genre.

So that said, if I'm critical of a work, it's often a compliment. Because I'm looking for the gold, and if I care enough to critique, then I believe it's there, or has the potential to be there. I mean criticism like a coach, or a teacher: You can do better. Don't give up now. Go that extra mile. Give me that 110% percent.

I love it when creators push limits. That's why I watch shows with giant robots.

So take my criticisms with a grain of salt - if I tried to explain my philosophy in approaching these things, we'd be here all day.
