Mindfreak!

Is no one on my list watching the A&E show Criss Angel: Mindfreak? Toys and I can't enough of it - he turns to me, last night, while we're watching it, and says, with something like amazement, "I'm really enjoying this." Which really isn't that much of a surprise, frankly, since one of his favorite films also happens to be the Clive Barker movie Lord of Illusions (which used to be one of those I-love-this-guy-but-ugh differences in opinion between us, since I saw that film in the theater and thought it was so garbled that not even all the bare-chested Scott Bakula in the world could save it, but I later found out that DVD version he saw - and we now own - is a director's cut that actually makes sense.) But yeah, Criss Angel. Magician/illusionist/power of positive thinking mind-over-matter body artist. Fascinating. And the opening credits music video, sort of a Marilyn Manson-slash-Red Hot Chilli Peppers desert circus freak show, is worth the price of admission alone. Part of me is high all week from Goth-y Criss throwing his hands in the air and screaming "Mindfreak!" to the heavens from inside a circle of fire. Makes me wish I'd been to Burning Man. (sigh) Someday.

I got a new library card yesterday. Our local branch is so close to our apartment that it could barely be closer without being literally next door, so it seemed ridiculous not to be using it just because I couldn't find my old card. The branch, I discovered, carries videos and CDs (a lot of them in Chinese or Russian - I'm rubbing my hands in anticipation of trying out some more Russian pop), as well as a fair number of Buffy and Angel paperbacks in the "Teen" section. I was amused to notice that one of the Angel books had been lovingly customized in a style I remember from my own junior high school days - using an eraser to white out the eye and mouth areas for a eerie, blunked-out ghost effect. Someone had also taken a scissors to the back cover to clip out one of the photographs - DB no doubt now decorates someone's college-ruled notebook. With a heart around it, I should hope. : )

Meme gakked from [livejournal.com profile] shipperx. Make a list of all the characters in your icons. (Although you may have more than one icon of a single character, they only go on the list once.) Alphabetize it. Take the first two people on the list; that's your first pairing. Second two people; second pairing...Read more... )
