Birthdays Plus!
Dec. 13th, 2005 05:43 pmBirthdays on my flist! Hope you're having good ones, you peeps!
Temp agency testing behind me now - holy sheesh, what an interesting experience. I discovered that a) despite never having sat in front of a PC in my life before, that I can fake my way through most of it based on Mac experience (and wasn't that a nice surprise) and b) no one's ever going to hire me as a bookkeeper, because I'm hopeless with Excel. As far as general office skillz go, I got some catching up to do. But, and this is the nice part, the grammar/spelling test I got handed at one of the agencies was such a cakewalk I was darn near insulted. Can I tell tenses apart? Pick the right spelling from a multiple choice list? Puh-lease. There I was, studying up on the AP Stylebook so I can be bulletproof on copyeditor's marks and proper hyphenation and preferred title formats for publication and copyright law... right. I should not be temping. But all in all, the experience of going through the testing's been a nice confidence booster.
But... I'll still feel more confident with an actual regular paying job. Le sigh.
I'm behind on updates, of course - all sorts of little observations I've been meaning to post for awhile now, a bit put off because of busyness (see previous post) and now, sick. (Toys has been ill, we're swapping germs.) But, because I'm briefly alert and clear-headed, thanks to a big hot coffee, here comes my collection of randomness. ( Film Geekery, Harry Potter Theorizing, Etc. )
