The Jackhammer Report
Jun. 27th, 2006 08:31 amDay 2 of Drilling: I took a closer look at our street today and discovered that my impression of a one-hole-for-each-house battle plan was, in fact, wrong. There are marks at regular intervals, about every twenty feet. And - not sure how I missed this - on both sides of the street. These working guys are going to be out here a while.
The rate seems to be about two holes per day. I guess that's to clean up the hole and drop one of those chunks of sheet metal over it by the end of the day, so cars can drive over it at night with that going-over-a-bridge clunking sound. [ETA: okay, two holes a day was definitely a low estimate. They've already done more than that, and are now in front of our place, so the noise is louder. Bearable, but louder. Good news is, maybe they'll be done faster.]
I also noticed marks on our sidewalk today. Right in front of our door. Oh, boy.
