Jul. 19th, 2006 04:16 pmA great big thank you to the anonymous sweetie who nominated Master and Slave over at the Love's Last Glimpse awards. First time I've ever been up for a PWP, whee!
I've been pretty minimal about
writercon prep. I've still to write back to some of my fellow panelists, bad me, and odds are good that I'll just be flying by the seat of my pants on the panels anyway, but I somehow doubt that'll be a huge problem - both my appearances are first thing Friday morning. (I was bummed to discover I'm up against the Characterization panel, which I'd hoped to attend, darn it.) [ETA: Ack! I just rechecked the schedule, and they've been moved to afternoon. Now everyone's going to be awake! Ai-yi-yi.] Hopefully, by the time the panels are over, I won't have convinced everyone to not want to talk to me. I'll be the tall redhead, probably running off at the mouth about either horror genre conventions, fairy tales, or superheroes. And character archetypes.
Oh, and on that note, food for thought:
*In archetype terms, Angel is not really a vampire. He's a werewolf. He's essentially the Wolf Man (or, rather more properly, the Wolf Man crossed with Dorian Gray, for the ageless quotient).
*Firefly is not really a Western. It's a pirate show. A Space Pirate show. Believe me, there are examples.
Stuff like that.
I keep wanting to chime on in this thread, linked from
metafandom, about the current trend toward darker, more depressing superhero stories, because god knows I could hold forth, but... time is short. Depending on Internet access from the hotel, I may or may not be online for a few days. If I'm lucky, I'll be inspired enough to get some fic writing done. That would be sweet. I usually don't sleep a ton when I'm away from home anyway.
Random Sidewalk Sightem: a broken flatscreen TV. High-def, no less. It's such a common feature in the urban landscape, the ol' busted TV by the side of the road, that I wished I'd had a camera on hand to document its technological updating. Today's technology = tomorrow's trash.
Hope to see, meet, and greet a great lot of you soon! (squeezes flist)
