I Taught Myself to Crochet
Dec. 3rd, 2006 02:34 pmOkay, retaught, maybe, because I used to know how to do this once - er, a couple of decades ago - but it's fair to say I've never been very good at following instructions for this sort of thing, so the Boye beginner kit, "I Taught Myself to Crochet," complete with hooks (a Jo-Ann Fabrics find) works as advertised. I started tinkering with the hook this morning to give my eyes something else to focus on (damn eyestrain headache!), and in the space of a few mintues, I had actual rows. Sweet.
It's relaxing, crocheting. Even more so than knitting - I think I have a better affinity for the crochet hook than knitting needles, and I'd totally forgotten about the soothing tangle of yarn around your fingers to create tension in the line, like Cat's Cradle. If I can master this well enough to make even something lame, like a potholder or a coffee cozy, in time to give them out for Christmas, I will be STOKED.
