...I'm Too Much
Dec. 26th, 2006 12:52 pmYet another one of my "I'm desperately behind on LJ" posts; 2006 shall henchforth be known as "The Year Toys and I Worked Straight Through Xmas." Student and freelancing work has really eaten the hours - Xmas Eve was a 3 or 4 am work session (we opened presents around 1 am, I think). Xmas day began when my dad called from the East coast a little too early to tell us how the postman had delivered the package I sent on Christmas day itself, despite the post office being closed and all. (It's a small enough town that this sort of thing happens.) Apparently, the cookies I sent were a big hit, so that was nice news to wake up to, and good to talk to the folks and all, but after the night before, it sort of kicked off a Christmas day that seemed to never end. By the time the Venture Bros. marathon started rolling last night, it felt like two days had gone by. "I feel beaten up," Toys groaned last night. "I feel I was knocked down and kicked in the kidneys."
I'm really noticing that too. The way long work sessions leave me so depleted, way more than they used to. All-nighters used to leave me feeling strung out; now I just feel drained. Husklike. Like I could literally blow away.
Aging sucks.
I made Xmas enchilads. It was the right food for the occasion - soft to eat, and blanketed with friendly cheese. Tonight, I'll probably light the Christmas pud. Didn't get around to it yesterday. By tonight, though, I think we'll be ready for some rum-soaked plum suet.
Intermission
Funniest exchange from Xmas Eve, when we took off a couple of hours working to watch some of the Rankin-Bass specials that ABC Family was running, marathon-style (I should mention here that these specials are new on Toys, who grew up in England - he seems to think that they demostrate something vital about the American mindset): ( On 'Santa Claus is Comin' to Town' and 'The Year Without a Santa Claus' )
This Thursday, Toys and I will be leaving for England for two weeks to visit Granny J, whose health has gotten a bit dodgy now that she's creeping up on 90. I'll probably be taking the laptop, probably, but depending on what kind of free WiFi I can snag in the UK, I may or may not be online. We'll see.
I've missed a slew of birthdays:
itmustbetueday and
ludditerobot and today is
_jems_. Never mind the belated this time - Happiest of Days to you all, and glad that you're all here, and that I get to share the Earth with you.
Happy Holidays to everyone, and here's to a good New Year ahead!
