A Belated Very Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] diachrony!

Our 4th of July, at Casa de [livejournal.com profile] thedeadlyhook and [livejournal.com profile] toysdream, consisted of getting up early to see an opening-day matinee of Transformers with MechMan and other friends. click here for the short reaction ).

Then there was lunch, and then we returned home to collapse, too tired for arranging a fireworks outing or BBQ. The weather was nice, but... just too tired.

I did a bit of LJ catch-up - following the example of [livejournal.com profile] spuffyduds and [livejournal.com profile] hurry_sundown, I Googled my LJ name, and found that aside from fanfiction, the three things I've been linked for or referred to, here and there on the Internets, are the Dude, Where's My Soul? essay, about Angel Season 5, my rant about Battlestar Galactica, Shut Your Frakking Face, Uncle Frakker, and the more recent bit where I defined Buffy as a "defender" type of hero, tied to a specific place and type of duty, distinct and different from free-range troubleshooters like Wonder Woman. Neat!

On the 4th holiday itself, from the articles I read, there finally seems to be some momentum building for a call to arms on patriotism as having something to do with ethics, which I'm pleased to see. Irritated it's taken this long, yes, but if wishes were fishes... That said, our local papers certainly weren't above fearmongering about "threat levels" on the holiday, so progress is relative, I suppose. Allow me to retort with a Robot Chicken sketch: Terrorism!.

Speaking of Robot Chicken, you have seen the Star Wars special, no? Oh, dude, you really must. Here's a sample to get you started: Not Fully Operational Battle Star.
