thedeadlyhook: (Spock and Chapel by loleiasbits)
This is mostly just spam post to show off new icons - I shuffled my collections because, in the five minutes of free time I currently have these days, I was suddenly bored. You may look forward to cartoons and other silliness in upcoming posts.

The Weekend With TDH and Toys
Woke up Saturday morning to sirens and honking horns in the street outside; Toys looks out the window and sees a whole procession of service vehicles: ambulance, fire truck, school bus, etc., plus a large number of people milling around. "It's like a street fair only nobody's having fun," he said.

Only actually, as it turned out, people were having fun - it was a school-sponsored "touch a truck" day for kids, who got to sit in the cockpits of garbage trucks, street sweepers, and earth-moving equipment, and play with the (locked) levers. Neato! They could also work, under supervison, the sirens and loudspeakers, which is what originally woke us up.

Toys went out with his sketchbook and drew pictures of the vehicles; he was like a kid in a candy store full of MONSTER TRUCKS.

Otherwise... not much to tell. We went to the park and looked at birds. Exciting. But, as Toys pointed out while we were watching Lizard in a Woman's Skin (Italian erotic thriller by Lucio Fulci; worth seeing for some fantastic London locations and go-go '60s hippie imagery), if he were locked in a sanitarium, a duck pond would probably be enough to keep him from going more crazy - water birds are often wonderfully soothing animals to watch. Especially coots, which have to be our favorites - they're so territorial, it's hilarious.

Of Things Fannish
The Spike: Shadow Puppets comic (issue #4) either did not ship on time to the San Francisco area, or it's sold out in every major store in the Bay Area, including the big daddy, Berkeley's Comic Relief. This blows. And the industry wonders why people wait for the trade paperbacks.

Don't ask me about Buffy Season 8. I'm not reading it. From reports I've seen from others, the plot is starting to explicitly resemble Queen of the Slayers, and hello, I hated that book. Do not want.

As a consolation (to me, anyway), the fic muse is back, and I'm hard at work on the next section of "Action Figures and Fashion Dolls." Oh, the plotting fun! It's been too long.

Reading and Watching
Am currently reading a short story collection by Alfred Bester. And Osamu Tezuka's Ode to Kirihito. Plus other manga. Plus watching as many obscure horror movies and horror anthologies as Toys and I can cram into our Netflix queue. Recommendations, as we draw closer to the holiday, may eventually follow.

Seventeen days to Halloween, Halloween, Halloween....
