Moon Men

Don't you just wish someone would do a TV show about astronauts? I mean, seriously - no one's touched the subject on television since I Dream of Jeannie, and can you imagine a more dramatic subject? Hey, not me. I mean, have we really become that anti-science as a culture? Sheesh.

I'm watching everything moon-related on TV today (I take it everyone's seen the lovely Google header today for the 40th anniversary?) Still debating whether or not to check out this Moonshot program with the Marsters in it - odds are it'll be pretty good, although I'm sure History Channel will replay it to death, and I have been watching moon stuff all day.

Aw, but there's Kronkite, and his wonderful voice. RIP. God, there's some ironic timing, his dying just before all this archival footage that he's so associated with. What drama, what history.

And all that science being accomplished by people with slide rules and computers that had less power than my second pocket calculator (probably not less than the first, though, being that it was a hand-me-down from my brother, a '70s monster as big as a transistor radio with only two high-tech keys - square root, and pi).

Seriously, does anybody even think of the future anymore?

I miss space. I miss having a culture that cared about it.

And on another, unrelated note, I miss radio. I'm trying to find some music blogs that suit me, but it's close to hopeless - I don't want to have to look for music, read about music, especially not the kind writing favored by music enthusiasts who keep blogs. Gah!
