I've tried to imagine how "The Girl in Question" might have gone if it featured more typical superheroes, say Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. Particulary the part where the guys are there on a job, and Wonder Woman is just there to dance and be chased around as a total sex object. Uh-huh. Empowering. Right.

Angel wants to be a hero. Even Spike wants to be a hero by mid-S5 ("it's what I want," from "Shells"). Buffy complains about her job for seven years. (cue Barbie voice) Saving the world is hard!

We never see her choose to be a hero again after "The Gift." She seems driven sheerly by some kind of sense that she can't quit. That she desperately wants to, however, doesn't give much for those looking for a "feminist hero" to hang onto. Like, who would do this sort of thing if they didn't have to? Except for every firefighter, police officer, solider, etc., etc....
