At least in S4 Angel, Angelus called them all on wasting their time on personal crap instead of fighting the battle at hand. There was no such voice of reason on Buffy. Though BtVS has always bordered on soap opera.
I personally think S7 was a complete shit-fest, without even the tough issue-addressing of the oft-maligned S6.
