It was fresh start for them, being here in Rome, so far away from everything--the old, bad history and her disapproving friends, both of them back from far side of death... This was a second chance for them, to get to know each other as new people, her without being a Slayer and him with a soul... she was learning to just be herself, with him. Yay! Buffy's being all grown up about starting over. Excellent start.
