A Belated Very Happy Birthdays to [livejournal.com profile] coyote_william, [livejournal.com profile] shapinglight, [livejournal.com profile] beanbeans, and [livejournal.com profile] cindergal!!

And a huge belated Thank You for all the lovely birthday wishes for me, [livejournal.com profile] riccadonna's awesome artwork and [livejournal.com profile] tesla321's utterly charming Spike/Buffy birthday fic And Then Begin Again. You guys are the definition of wondefulness.

I'm still hoping to get around to writing up some thoughts on Iron Man and Prince Caspian, which Toys and I saw the other day - wow, really excellent, and worth seeing on the big screen - but unfortunately they'll have to wait until my brain feels somewhat less fuzzy. Damn summer cold. Sniff.

In the meantime, links!

Japanese Culture
An interview between Shigeru Mizuki and Go Nagai. Probably only of interest to me, but this is two of the most influential artists on Japan's pop culture scene from the last 30 years or so quizzing each other on their work. Dude.

Cartoons
Cute Overload posted that old Chuck Jones cartoon that always makes me cry like a faucet because its story content - a big bulldog befriending a teensy, supercute kitten - is a perfect example of what they like to call inter-species snorgling. Watch and weep. And on Adult Swim, Venture Bros is back, as well as new Metalocalypse. These things make me happy.

And now I must watch American Gladiators. And Dirty Jobs. Although SciFi IS running a Star Trek: The Next Generation viewer's choice marathon, and god, I miss that show. The earnestness of it, the serious commitment to visualizing a positive future. Oh, idealism, where have you gone?

[ETA: Argh! No American Gladiators tonight because it's been preempted for a Red Wings hockey game! Dammit dammit dammit!]

[ETA2: Okay, so now I'm switching back and forth between ST:TNG and Dirty Jobs, which is a good compromise. First holodeck malfunction. Those were the days.]

Oh man, that Mizuki/Nagai interview is awesome. Praise be to Matt Alt for posting that one for us. :-)

Hee, glad you liked. I have to say, sometimes the Japanese magazines really come up with good pairings in that have-one-artist-interview-another thing that they do. It's a nifty formula.

Tesla did do a lovely job of that fic, didn't she. She is the queen of unsentimental dialogue.

She is indeed. I just adore her matter-of-fact take on the pairing.

Sorry to have been so late! I don't know where the time goes.

I'm hoping to be around more, too. Even though the work schedule is loosening up, finally, social commitments have rushed in to take up the slack, but I'm determined to get more writing done this year, and not to let myself fall further out of touch.

You're sick too? :(

I was perplexed by the ST:TNG viewers choice marathon. People actually chose those eps? Maybe it was a 'Best of Season 1' thing because, as much as I love the show, Season 1 was not very good. I did sit through 'The Naked Now' AKA 'The Episode Data Gets Laid'. ;)

Yeah, I think this particular "viewer's choice" was a teensy bit rigged, as in, the "viewer" was a programmer with a random selection of Season 1 reels to choose from. I mean, "Naked Now" and "Big Goodbye" I'm not complaining about, but "Arsenal of Freedom"? The Vincent Schiavelli appearance is about the only good thing in that one - the planet of ultimate robot weapons that can't aim!!

I feel the need for Next Gen icons so bad, though, after watching those eps. Damn, that was a fun show.

There must be some kind of summer bug going around - I noticed the other day that everyone on my morning bus ride was coughing. Thankfully, I seem to have gotten away with a light version of the infection - no coughing yet, just the sore throat and sniffles. Hope you feel better soon!

I just happened to see this post of yours while trying to postpone terrace-gardening, and look and behold, you put a link to my card in your page! I'm so puffed up I'll float to my duties. It may seem very naive to you, but this is an unprecedented thing to me and I'm "delighted". Mind if I put you on friends list?
