thedeadlyhook: (Spuffy alert by Kathyh)

I'm having a very odd moment of stage fright. It's been so long since I've posted regularly to LJ, that I've even had time to read my Friends page or check in with anyone, that coming back to the journal I've had for... holy crap, nearly 10 years(!) is starting to make me feel like a bit of an intruder. I have no idea what anyone's up to anymore or if anyone's even interested in reading Buffyfic these days.

Would it be weird if I started posting new chapters of my WIP? Bueller?

Lay it on us! Speaking just for myself, I would be thrilled to see more.

So, the news is fairly simple. Those lucky ducks in the UK just had their summer weekend writerconUK event in Coventry, and you and I were not there. Boo. [livejournal.com profile] summer_of_giles was very active this year. [livejournal.com profile] sb_fag_ends continues to have good stuff. A lot of fandom happens on Tumblr these days, but I want to read, not just look a pretty pictures. FF.net has had a flurry of very nearly decent new Spuffy activity, though I don't trust that it won't do something to piss off the authors any day now. AO3 is the archive for all the cool kids. It's not pairing or fandom specific, and it doesn't have a lot of wacky rules and regs. Kalima / Lord Shiva, Celesteavonne, Laure Alexander (sp), Sadbhyl, mintwitch, kallysten, and many other classic authors are putting their old stuff up there, so you should, too! One caveat: the site lets people download to their reading device of choice, so there's not a lot of incentive for people to come back and comment when they've finished.

I know I'm forgetting something. Not exactly new news, but you did read [livejournal.com profile] knifeedgefic's stories, right? Also [livejournal.com profile] lostboy_lj's Clocks of the Long Now? Because if you're in a reading mood, those will hold you for awhile.

Oh, man, Writercon UK would've been such a cool thing. Maybe someday, sigh...

Thanks for the updates. At least now I have a vague idea where everyone's gone to (like you, I'm less into the pics than the fics for this particular fandom, even though I have a couple of tumblr accounts myself for other things). I haven't gotten around to checking out AO3 yet, but now that there's a little free time, I probably should. I've been feeling very nostalgic and curious to revisit some old classics and see what my reactions would be now. Different, I'm sure, but possibly in interesting and/or revealing ways -- it might be a fun experiment to pen some reviews, if time permits, which it may not. Ah, well. A thought.

And thanks for the recs! I have read [livejournal.com profile] knifeedgefic's stuff, but I don't think I've read Clocks of the Long Now (or I started it at one time, because the name does sound familiar, but haven't gotten anywhere near very far into it, judging from the table of contents), so that's next on my agenda. Woo hoo!

And a fic post will be coming right up!

If you need an AO3 invite code — not strictly necessary, but simpler — let me know!

I'm pretty sure I don't have a code - at least I don't remember having one - so yes please!

Hm, I can't find it. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Got it, thanks! But now... wow, I am dumb or something, because I can't figure out how to activate it on AO3. I'll keep trying, and if I really can't figure it out, I'll be back in touch.

I re-sent the invite to your gmail addy. I hope. I'm guessing that it wants you to get there via link, because I can't see where you'd put the code in either. Stupid smart code. Still not sure why it didn't go to your LJ inbox the first time. Grrr.
