Went for a freakishly long walk yesterday - across the park, 40 blocks to ocean and then 40 blocks back - during which I pretty much totally wore myself out. I suppose that fits for a general New Year's resolution for more physical exercise, but now I'm achy and fatigued. Whups. Toys is also overtired, still playing Christmas catchup, and I'm behind on more or less everything, but waving weakly to all LJ friends who at this point no doubt consider me a gigantic flake. Good New Year's wishes to all, and good health and better forture in the upcoming year.

Tomorrow, I realized, is my one-year anniversary of this journal. When I started this, I was still working at my old job, though already short-timing it, and mostly just wanting something else to think about rather than my huge lifestyle change, already in progress. And in some ways, LJ has indeed been a sort of lifeline during that process - I'm still at a loose end, a year later, job-wise, but have made progress in other ways through this journal, not the least of which is actually talking to people more than I used to (even if just through email), and attempting to coherently organize my thoughts through writing (not in a job context). I've even tried my hand at fiction-writing because of this journal, something I never thought I'd do, because of all the kind encouragement I've received here. I'm hugely grateful for that, even if I remain forever a dabbler, unlike the professionals and proto-professionals on my flist. All the people I've met here, even if we never meet face to face, you've all made a huge difference. Thank you.

Right now, Sci-Fi Channel is playing Lexx, which I dearly love. It's not Farscape, not even close - there's simply not the same level of intense characterization - but the absurdity of the show just tickles me, not to mention the hundreds of neat ideas packed into it, just in passing. Season 3, I would also note, contains one of the most interestingly original concepts I've ever seen for heaven and hell, along with an actual serious (by Lexx terms) discussion of moral choices. That, and absolutely everything in Lexx is an excuse for some sexual imagery or actual sex. It's pretty darn frank about what it is. Better late-night viewing, the world has yet to see.

[livejournal.com profile] sangueuk has a great list up of fun things to do to motivate yourself or otherwise cheer up winter blues, here, and many of them are either simple exercises to remind you to appreciate what's around you ever yday - stop and smell the flowers - or to do something to help others. I swear, just reading this list cheered me up. How easy is it to make someone's day better, even your own? Pretty darn easy.

More!

Two more things for today. First, happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] molly_may!

Next, a rec. I've been a bad feedbacker (in that I haven't given any yet), but I've been hugely enjoying [livejournal.com profile] bogwitch's postings of the Spillyria story The Twelve Days of Christmas. Seriously good stuff about Illyria wanting to understand the meaning of Christmas, and time-traveling through various character stories to get there. Great, wistful memory moments, fun dialogue, and the most recent chapter even mentions the legend of Black Peter.
