SPD Emergency!
Mar. 6th, 2005 12:17 pmQuick geek alert: I've fallen desperately in love with Power Rangers SPD (that's "Space Patrol Delta," by the way). I'm serious. It's awesome.
ABC Family did a marathon this morning. I am - I'll admit it - an old skool fan of the original Power Rangers, cheesy as it often was, because I loved the fun energy of the thing, but this show is actually good. Really good. Which shouldn't be such a surprise because the PR shows have been increasing in quality and originality over the last few years anyway, and this is the funnest on I've seen yet. Thanks to go out MechMan for getting me hooked.
Short breakdown: five-member team, all with special powers (aside from the suited powers), operate like Galactic Police. Alien invasion, yadda yadda. What sets this one apart is the really witty writing and strong characters - the team has two ass-kicking chicks (the actors are real athletes, so all the kung fu is for real - kids' shows don't do doubles, they're expensive), and the leader of the team is a reformed Robin Hood type with dreadlocks. The characters are all likeable, have interesting conflicts, and the villains are a hoot, including a Resident Evil-style little girl who likes to make her own monsters for the Galactic Emperor (impressively ridiculous Skeletor-looking dude), as long as he indulges her with dolly tea parties. I haven't had so much fun in ages.
In other news, I'm seriously considering going back to school. No idea where the money'll come from but... it's looking promising. I'm stoked.
