I keep missing birthdays - happy belateds all around to [livejournal.com profile] dessert_first, [livejournal.com profile] ascian3 and [livejournal.com profile] wickedgillie!

Obviously I'm also late getting around to a post about our camping trip, but better late than never... Fun in the Woods )

The Hurricane Rita coverage is getting increasingly scary - I'm glad to see that the Houston-area members of my flist all seemed to have moved north already, but god. Poor New Orleans, again. And poor Gulf Coast - frightening to realize that this is the future, more severe storms and more often. Global weather patterns are nothing to play with - please, please someone tell me that this will lead to something being done about global warming? At the very least a revival of train travel - could the seriousness of America's car dependency be more obvious at this point? For moving large masses of people, the individual auto just does not cut it. Really, really doesn't. The pictures of the highways leading out of Houston remind me of The Stand.

There are finally some jobs I'm interested in replying to showing up in postings. Thank god. Really tired of not working now.

Just trying to keep my mind off other things while I work on cover letters. Sci-Fi Friday tonight, yay. I'm actually looking foward to Stargate: Atlantis. Query of the day: does a cast with good chemistry but a weak plotline trump a cast with poor chemistry but a strong plotline? Or vice versa? (I'm thinking of this is terms of this season's SG1 versus Altantis.)
