Links and Fan Love

Moving on from my last angry post, I wanted to put up some fun links. About comics. Comics are fun. Or... well, they can be, although I also have certain issues with modern comics and the whole deconstructed/dark/downbeat universal themes that have been all the rage for the past ten years or so, but dare I say, I think we may finally be moving out of those dark ages into something more like light. There are encouraging signs.

First, there's the Absorbascon site, generally fun all around, but scroll down to the story on the Krypto-nian Sliver Age, and scans of a comic about Krypto, Superman's Super Dog. In Spanish translation, no less. You will see sights that if you'd seen them enlarged and hung on a gallery wall, you'd proclaim the artist who produced them to a surrealist genius. Bonus points below that story for the funny diss on Peter David's run on Aquaman. (It's a diss, which doesn't really go with my positive theme here, but I'm allowing it because it's hella funny.)

Next, Dave's Long Box, on the great idea of using "Airwolf" as an adjective. Complete with fun Photoshopped images. Scroll down for more, like the Star Trek/X-Men crossover comic (yes, there was such a thing), and an expansive examination of Power Girl entitled "Boob War Climax: Everybody Loves Power Girl!" Priceless.

And finally... I've been kind of hesitant to mention this, actually, given the recent kerfuffles over awards... but I owe thanks to a few people.

The Vampire's Kiss Awards, the Fool For Love Awards, whoever nominated me at both of those, and also whatever nice person nominated me at the Spuffy Awards. My big congratulations to winners on my friends list too, you wonderful writery peeps, you. ( Pretty Award Banners )

Someday soon I'll come up with something smart to say, I hope, about writing. About how getting awards like this makes me feel. Mostly just... awed.
