Gift Guide! Last-minute Xmas geek gifts
Dec. 16th, 2006 07:42 pmJust 'cause I have to share, some great deals on some really damn great anime.
First, the Paranoia Agent box set. This normally goes for a hundred bucks, so it's an awesome deal. A fabulous mystery series I can't recommend highly enough, funny and creepy and thoroughly WTF absurd, by one of my favorite directors, Satoshi Kon. He was nominated for an Oscar a couple of years back, for Tokyo Godfathers, another fine, funny, weird film, so that should give you an idea of the quality. Adult stuff. May be a tad slow for some, though.
Second, the Giant Robo box, with CDs. Retro craziness and bizarre save-the-world action done utterly serious, even grim. This is the good stuff, what that anime "thing" is all about. For me, anyway. Less than fifteen bucks for 3 video volumes, and 2 CD soundtracks. That's friggin' insane. Expect no concessions to realism.
Yes, I am a dork.
