Yay!: A great big THANK YOU! to my anonymous benefactor who nonimated Dirty Back Road over at the Lost in Spike awards. Smooch!

Valentine's Day: was kind of a bust, not that we'd planned anything huge for the day beyond going down the block to See's Candy and picking out a few treats. But Toys and I seem to have about the same luck with holidays as Buffy Summers does with birthdays - they're typically a dumping ground for either illnesses or deadlines. Yesterday was illness: Toys came down with a lightning attack of mystery virus that left him feverish and nauseated the whole day and night. It was weird and scary, and I'm so going to drag him to the doctor if these symptoms keep up. Health comes first, dammit, first. Deadlines, second.

Yesterday's Weird Event: Two dudes, on the sidewalk, with a video camera and a big pink box. Big, as in washing machine-sized, big enough for a person to hide in. One of said dudes was dressed as a postman - I couldn't quite figure, as I walked by on my way to the grocery store, if they were filming some kind of video valentine, a future YouTube gag reel, or just an experimental student piece. Could be any or all, I suppose. There wasn't enough foot traffic in the area for it to be a social experiment, and the location (outside a small office) had me wondering a bit if it wasn't some office-centric project, like something to play at a party. I love these little brain teasers!

Also: Got another attempted Coaxing-by-Psychic. This time, it was a young lad outside a storefront for palmistry, etc. (also on the way to the grocery store), who asked me if I wanted to buy some flowers. Maybe he was even unrelated to the psychic shopfront, and just happened to be standing in their doorway propping the glass door open, who knows, but I'll count it. Toys seems to think that the universe is trying to tell me I really do need my fortune read - when we were in Brighton, just a few weeks ago, he'd been trying to encourage me to visit the fortuneteller who works out of a gypsy wagon on Brighton Pier, but I hadn't really been in the mood. I guess when the time is right, I'll just "know." Or they will.

One of the (few) good things about the current job search is that I've finally given Craigslist a good combing-through, something I never used to have the time for. The Best of Craigslist is some of the funniest reading I've had in awhile. And who knew how many local groups were out there, let alone volunteer organizations. There's a path in here for me somewhere - gawd, maybe I do need a psychic.

But on that note (funny reading, not psychics), a post-Valentine's Day fic rec: [livejournal.com profile] missmurchison's Giftless, which appeared, lo, from the heavens, almost immediately after I whined about the need for some fluffy Spuffy. So fun, so right.

And now, the final question: Do I watch Ugly Betty tonight, or succumb to the urge of the Donald Trump-vs.-Vince McMahon special wrestling bout? I guess I could always tape Ugly Betty... (chews nails) [ETA: Okay, I'm taping the wrestling event for MechMan, so I watched Betty live. Pathos tonight, and Lucy Liu guestage! I am really, really enjoying this show.]
