The worst thing about being too busy to catch up to my flist more than once a week: That feeling of arriving late to any party, and wondering if at that point it's even a good idea to come barging in. It's turning me back into a lurker. I mean, does it seem intrusive, to join in on an old discussion, or does it come off all attention-seeking me-too, waving a flag long after the parade's passed? This is especially bad when I come across a post with a friend in a crisis - I mean, what's the expiration date for virtual hugs? : (

The best thing about being too busy to catch up to my flist more than once a week: Getting to read fic for a change, and all in one sitting! I didn't sign up for [livejournal.com profile] seasonal_spuffy this year - I just couldn't, not with this schedule - but I'm discovering the wonderful upside of being able to read again instead of stressing about my own writing. I can already feel it helping me with the above point, the aversion to commenting late. Reading fic makes me want to comment, and even more so when read in a big batch on a lazy Saturday. Yes. So decadent. : )

General state of me: I've been... well, working. No life. I did get to see [livejournal.com profile] asta77 on her visit to San Francisco, and to meet [livejournal.com profile] xwacky and hang out with [livejournal.com profile] danceswithwords and hear all the upcoming scoops on the new season of BSG, and that was major good times. I also saw baby goats on a dairy farm - see [livejournal.com profile] toysdream's journal for a picture - and attended the first of several going-away parties for MechMan, who's moving back east soon (about which I have many sad feelings I can't really get into right now), so I can't say I haven't been social, but... yeah. Mostly work. And sleeping. I can't get enough sleep these days, and I know what that's a sign of, aside from exhaustion.

I have to make this change. I feel like I'm disappearing.

Annnnnnd, okay, enough with me and the whining. This is right about the point where I begin to disgust myself. Someone slap me. Um, virtually.

Birthdays! I've missed more birthdays, and birthdays need celebration! Celebration, dammit! Belated Very Happy Birthdays to [livejournal.com profile] sangueuk, [livejournal.com profile] sharelle, [livejournal.com profile] irfikos and [livejournal.com profile] rahirah! Guys, I hope you had great times, and here's to what I hope is a better year ahead.

Special Request to My London Flisters: For a friend who's going to be moving to London for school for a semester, what areas of the city should currently be avoided by a young woman living alone? She's trying to find an apartment right now and is hoping not to end up somewhere that will require her to pack a knife in her purse.

TeeVee, Comics, and Other
There is Dirt tonight, so I'm happy. Haven't been following BSG or Torchwood (though I did download the finale, just because so many people were talking about it that I really must check it out), so nothing to add there. Loving The Incredible Herc comic and Marvel's Secret Invasion event series has gotten off to a nice rousing start - nothing like B-movie paranoia to get a good fight going, and that is what superhero comics are about, after all. Conflict! Still enjoying the Angel comic - really liked the Spike segment of the latest; Lynch really does get Spike in my book - and have rolled my eyes thoroughly at the cracktastic latest events in Buffy comic whilst simultaneously trying to supress my rage at the decidedly unfeminist plot. (Remind me again, what's so empowering about a story where supergirls are depowered so they can be killed off serial-style by the villains as in exactly the kind of horror films that the Buffy series was meant to subvert? Right, of course, because historically speaking, watching strong women being weakened, terrorized, and murdered is the basis for good drama. Why should I expect Buffy to veer off that path, just because of a little thing like feminism? Dramatic rules must be followed, yo! Grrr.)

Fic Writing
I've had a plot bunny. The first new one in a long time. I may try to develop it for my [livejournal.com profile] lynnevitational fic, unless one of my WIPs gets some movement going, but first, I've gotta solve a little question batting around my head about S6. Did I miss something, or was there a reason why Buffy didn't just go straight to Warren's house after "Gone" and kick his butt, for the mere existence of the Buffybot if nothing else? She knew his adddress. They didn't vacate their original "lair" until much later, right?

How are all of you?
