A Very Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] evilawyer!!!

It's Saturday, I'm enjoying my day off - and by "enjoying" read "laying on the couch looking at the Internets with TNT's Lord of the Rings marathon on in the background, even though it's a beautiful day outside." I share with you this bit of commentary from Toys:

[livejournal.com profile] toysdream: (commenting on battle scene in Return of the King): Oh, look, any minute now we're going to get Eowyn's "Lay on, McDuff" moment.
[livejournal.com profile] thedeadlyhook: I forget how that went. You know your Shakespeare better than me.
[livejournal.com profile] toysdream: It's that part where Macbeth is basically "bwah ha ha, no man born of woman can defeat me," and then MacDuff says surprise! He was born by cesarean section; "from his mother's womb untimely ripp'd." So then Macbeth says, "I'm not gonna fight you, then. I'd totally lose!" To which MacDuff responds, "buck buck buck!" After that, Macbeth comes back with the "Lay on, MacDuff. Which is of course how an Elizabethean would say 'bring it!'"

Okay, now Toys is commenting that Gollum sounds like Donald Duck, and he's right. Really doubt I'll ever shake that image.

I made pancakes this morning. That's as productive as I've been today.

Link Fun! Edward Gorey's Tarot Deck. We ran across this doing research on tarot cards for one of Toys's art projects. Hilarious. Apparently done for an Esquire magazine article in the 1960s, it's a parody tarot deck with Gorey's own original cards, such as "The Bottle" and "The Burning Head." You can see the whole deck through this link. (Note how many of the cards have an interpretive meaning of "sexual dysfunction" as well as obscure diseases.)

Dethklok Live! This summer, DETHKLOK, the animated band from Adult Swim’s Metalocalypse, hits the road on a 28-city headlining tour kicking off June 2nd in Portland, along with two of metal’s top acts, CHIMAIRA and SOILENT GREEN. They're playing at the Fillmore in June. Am I tempted by this? Oh, hell yeah.

I was sad to hear that Charlton Heston died. Old Hollywood really is passing away. Judah Ben Hur and Taylor and Moses and that guy in Soylent Green - god, he was such an influence on my love for movies, especially dark movies. And he always made such good cameos )RIP.
