Note to self: do not watch a series of Italian horror films while working on a fic set in Rome, because then you start hearing those weird soundtracks in your head and writing stuff that looks like an outtake from Deep Red. And oh, holy shit, Argento's Tenebre probably win the "most people killed with an axe" award. Dude, this movie is gruesome.

Retreating back to the comforting arms of British horror now. Ah, Hammer. The Reptile. Now that was fun. Even more fun was the trailer for Rasputin, "the maaaaaad monk!," as the voiceover informs us. Played by Christopher Lee, no less. And if I'd been lucky enough to have seen that in its original run, I'd have gotten a free Rasputin beard in the theater. Hey, those were the days.

(Just flyby comments here, sorry.)

BBC2 used to show a Hammer film every Friday night when I was a teenager. Good times. Rasputin was every bit as fun as it looked, at least to me as a fifteen-year-old.

My computer screen is not great. What does the last line on your icon say?

I actually can't read it either. It's one of [livejournal.com profile] buffyx's icons. So mysterious...

I'm so jealous of the Friday-night horror. I never saw Hammer stuff at all until I was out of college, at least. And Peter Cushing in Horror of Frankenstein? Evil, sure, but what a dishily gorgeous hawk-faced fellow he was!

Peter Cushing was my first teenage crush on a famous person. I'm very glad I didn't write Frankenstein fanfic because it would have been lamentably Mary-Sue. Also, I'm not sure he was a good role model for an Aspiring Young Science Student.

I still have some of the pencil sketches I made of him.

But Dr. Frankenstein is such a great example of stick-to-it-tiveness, though! I mean, he's not one to be put off creating his monster by a little thing like not having a spare brain lying around, is he? ; )

My first celebrity crush is considerably less dignified. I once sculpted a little clay figurine that was supposed to be myself holding hands with Dirk Benedict. (embarrassed cough)

Hmmm.... that is not ringing a bell. But since I'm on this kind of horror-watching kick, I will let you know if I run across it.
