The Girl's a Super Geek

Okay, this is what happens when you get a bunch of comics nerds together to watch genre TV.

The following converstion took place between this week's couch crowd for the Angel showing:

(talk about the trailer for next week, in which Spike is a Nazi)
The Deadly Hook: Oh, c'mon! This is getting ridiculous.
Guest Viewer: Yeeeahh... I think Spike could be considered Chaotic Good at this point.
Chevy Impaler: That would make Angel... Lawful Good.

I mean, I barely ever even played D&D myself, but yeah, I got the reference. And no, it didn't end there - my brain then kicked in with the info that Angelus would obviously defined as Chaotic Evil, which supports the theory developed by CI and myself that the Angel personality is a conscious effort to be the exact opposite of Angelus - a sort of extension of the you're-not-the-boss-of-me attitude he had as a human toward his father when he ran around the village being the embarrassing bad boy just to get under the skin of dear old dad. Which would make Angel's relationship with Angelus sort of a rebellious son thing. Which would make his relationship with Spike as older/younger brother... okay, shutting up now.

But that wasn't the really geeky conversation of the evening. Try this one, an extended Smallville debate about the new character Adam Knight, rumored to have been based on Batman (thus the suspisciosly composite name - "Adam" from Adam West, and "Knight," from Dark Knight?).

(after the line, re: Adam, about him having already "died")
The Deadly Hook: Ooh, he's a zombie! I guess he's NOT Batman, then.
Guest Viewer: Okay, how many DC characters are dead?
Chevy Impaler: Well, there's Deadman.
Guest Viewer: What's Deadman's real name?
The Deadly Hook: Uh... Deadman?
Guest Viewer: No, his REAL name.
Chevy Impaler: (immediately) Boston Brand.
Guest Viewer: (laughs) Hey, that's... I'm impressed that you know that.
Chevy Impaler: Bwah ha ha. You know what The Demon's name is? Jason Blood!
The Deadly Hook: (laughs) That's right! Sounds like a rock star.
Chevy Impaler: Sure, he's a descendant of the venerable Massachussets family of Bloods. (laughs)
Guest Viewer: As opposed to the LA Crips.
The Deadly Hook: If he were a pirate, he'd be Captain Blood.
Chevy Impaler: A zombie pirate. (laughs)
Guest Viewer: Okay, more dead characters... well, there's The Spectre, but he's a different guy now.
Chevy Impaler: Didn't he used to be an Irish cop or somemthing? Jim Corrigan?
Guest Viewer: He's Hal Jordon now.
Chevy Impaler: The Green Lantern?
Guest Viewer: Yeah, so The Spectre can be anybody... don't know about him. Hmm.
Chevy Impaler: Well, there's still Deadman.

We're hopeless. : )

You know, it's about time "Guest Viewer" got his own alias. At this point he's gone from "Special Guest Star" status to actually appearing in the opening credits montage. :-)

Too true. He'll have to pick his own stage name. Although hopefully adding him to the credits doesn't mean he gets capped immediately... that would suck.

I think I woke up in it this morning... strange place. The weather's all variable and you have to, like, brush your teeth and stuff. But you do get to pick your own soundtrack, which is cool.

Be glad it's not that damn Kylie Minogue song you've got stuck in your head... ; )
